Ahh cross training… the delightful practice of doing OTHER exercises when you’ve already found the one you hate the least!
Doing the same exercises everyday puts you in danger of becoming more and more like that bloke in the pub who tells you the same story a million times. Boring, predictable and occasionally limping.
Cross training keeps your body guessing and your muscles mildly confused… which in fitness terms is a good thing! Mixing it up also prevents injury, so the occasional swim or cycle as a runner can be totally beneficial whilst discovering new and exciting ways to embarrass yourself. What’s not to love?
Cross training is also a brilliant boredom buster. Spending hours on an ergometer (rowing machine), watching yourself slowly dying sometimes feels a bit dull so switching it up can be rewarding… as the phrase suggests “a change is as good as a rest”.
So there you have it. Cross training may not make you are superhero, but it may just save you from injury and give you something else to complain about… a very real British sport.
