I couldn’t quite believe my luck when my sister put me in touch with Nicole … what were the chances of someone knowing someone that had a similar dream AND wanted to make it happen as badly as you did! Queue Kat, a bubbly Aussie with FOMO who was also well up for this adventure.
The snowball effect was amazing before we knew it we were registered.. FaceTiming , zooming , Teaming and making friends . The next stroke of luck was acquiring the wonderful Ade , our social media guru who has and will make sure we are on trend with all things creative… a huge job, I assure you !
So, picture this: three intrepid rowers and a social media queen. Perfect. Except… we want to be a team of four. Now, given our relative smooth sailing to date I thought finding a fourth maniac would be a doddle. I set about asking some people. What better place to begin than in a spin class full of sweaty, mad, keen fitness fanatics? The snowball melted… I was met with range of comments from a simple “no“ to expletives I can’t share on this blog. Not one to give up, I started asking random strangers whilst out for a run or casual dog walkers… surely if these people are up and about doing stuff they too would jump at this opportunity??? Although when asked strangers were much more friendly in their dismissal (unlike my spin class mates) and would politely decline.
We are still yet to find the “elusive fourth“. I am also concerned that I’m beginning to get a reputation for being a little odd as your first question when you meet someone new really shouldn’t be “Do you row?” So, with a little more self discipline and perhaps searching on some row forums or asking clubs (sensible places), I’m more than sure we will find her.
They say the journey is more exciting than the destination so here’s to the fourth oar wherever they may be and the endless adventure and friendship that waits for the brave soul that seeks it out.
